Blanca..., I worked for Gina in 001 for some time. We always had a great time working for her. She was always ready to work and use her knowledge about anything she could offer. I know God has a special plan for her. She is just a great person all around. I pray for her and she always comes to my mind when I have questions. I think and pray for you and the 3 wounderful kids you and Gina have raised so well. Please say hi to the kids from Gina's 163 team in 001.

Hello Dwyer-Meliska Family,
My family and I would like to let you and yours know that we are constantly in prayer concerning Gina's condition. We pray that she has a full recovery. We pray that the family find strength and courage to believe that Gina will make improvements.
Please read the following text in the bible; James 5:14,15 and Phil 4:13.

Dear Gina and family,
I have been deeply touched by the story about you recently in the Southtown/Star. I found your picture on a graduation composite from St. Anthony's School in1975. I was one of your teachers that year. I just want you to know that you have a promise of my prayers for you and your family. I was also moved by reading about the beautiful person you have become-so generous to others and kind and helpful. The difficult part of being a teacher in elementary school is not usually knowing how your students turn out in the future, but you have surely become a successful wife, mother, professional and friend to many. I will pray for your complete recovery to good health.
Love,
Monica Marie Szwast

I just received the news about your Mom from a letter sent by Mrs. Klawitter. I'm so sorry to hear about her health challenges, but I know that God truly is a healer. I suffered with a severe illness for seven years and had it not been for the prayers of others and my faith in him I wouldn't be here today.
We will continue to pray for your mother, as well as, you and your family. May God continue to richly bless you.
Sincerely,
Ms. Gunn

Dear Bob and Kids,
It's Gina's cousin Debbie and Jim, Melinda and Natalie. We want you to know that all of you are still in our thoughts and prayers and I continue to pray for a good outcome. I know this must be incredibly difficult for all of you.
I have happy childhood memories of times with my Dwyer cousins, and tough memories like when my Uncle Dick was shot and we all nervously sat in the hospital waiting room knowing he was in critical condition. Our prayers were answered that night, and I haven't given up hope that they will be answered again, even though not in the time period we all initially hoped for.
The last time I saw Gina she mentioned how nice it would be for all the Dwyer cousins and their families to get together for a family reunion (although the Dwyer sisters and families fill up a huge room on their own!), and I will be joyful if that does happen in the future. I dream of Gina's recovery and would love the opportunity to talk to her again. All of us seemed to share a similar Dwyer sense of humor.
I hope you will continue to update this site with details, even though it must be difficult when things aren't as positive as you like. Please know you are still surrounded with love and concern.
Love,
Debbie Dwyer-Stelter and Family

To Gina and her family,
One year ago this month my Mom almost died twice: first from a heart attack and then from complications from a triple bypass. I will never forget the kind words that Gina spoke to me. I will continue to pray for Gina and her family because I am positive that her prayers along with those of others helped my Mom recover.
May God bless, keep, and comfort you all.

We hope everyone will join us and say this prayer for Gina every day.
O glorious Saint Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and counsel mankind, I implore your Miraculous Intercession. So powerful are you in obtaining every need of body and soul our Holy Mother Church proclaims you a "Prodigy of Miracles.... the Greatest Saint of Modern Times." Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition (mention here) and to carry out your promises of spending Heaven doing good upon earth...of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses. Henceforth, dear Little Flower, I will fulfill your plea "to be made known everywhere" and I will never cease to lead others to Jesus through you.
God bless Gina and her family,

I have always admired Gina since I first met her 12 years ago. At her kids’ parties she was so cool, organized, funny & a great cook (meatballs, dips). She kept me in awe with everything she did. I loved the summer nights in the yard with her, her family and her friends.
Working in a pediatric ward at a hospital, I try to save my prayers for when I really need them. I really need one now so God please help Gina heal and wrap Bob and their children in your caring arms.
Get well soon,
Miss You,

Gina, her family and friends,
It was a pleasure to work with Gina in the 1st District. The trips to DC and other get-togethers with her were a blast. Although her heart physically faltered for a moment, I'm sure that the spiritual side of her heart and personality will carry her through this ordeal. I pray for her often and hope that she gets well soon.

Gina, myself and Colleen Corcoran (may she rest in peace) drove to the academy together. Gina was our great motivator when we had a big test coming up. If any body can make it Gina will. She's got the spirit and drive. Gina has more drive and determination than a whole football team. My prayers are with you. I know God hears all these thoughts and prayers and will bring Gina full circle.

Gina and family,
When I first met you all I knew is that you were a "bosses" daughter who made Sgt. It didn't take long to realize you were one of the best Sgt's I would probably ever meet. Right around the same time the realization came that you were also an excellent person. You donate so much of your time to charities, benefits and the pursuit to get every possible CPD member to the National Memorial to honor our fallen heroes. You’re as tough as they come, and I can't wait to call you Lieutenant.
It's obvious that your spirit is passed on to your family, and between their devotion and your tenacity I have nothing but high hopes for your full recovery.
Our family will keep you and yours in our prayers...

Gina,
Phil Hasket sent me the first e-mail from your good friend asking for prayers. I forwarded it to everyone in my address book and asked them to request that their friends continue to forward that message asking for prayer. I believe in prayer and I also believe in the brother/sisterhood of the Chicago Police Dept. We ARE family. When one of us hurts, we all hurt.
I will continue to have you in my nightly prayers until the good Lord decides that it's time for you to get back up on your feet and be well again. Your family loves you and needs you. And it sure sounds like you've made friends wherever you've been.
Please God, give this wonderful young lady back to her family and to all of us because the world is a much brighter and better place with Gina in it.
Amen.

Gina ran the Marathon the year after I did. No matter how hard you train and prepare, and Gina was very well trained and prepared, you always worry about whether or not you will be able to make it to the finish line. Here's what I told her: "Gina, you gave birth to a 12 lb. baby! What could be harder than that?! 26 miles is a walk in the park compared to what you went through." Apparently it was because she got through the Marathon.
I believe with God's grace and all of our prayers she will get through this, too.
God bless Gina and all of you who are praying for her.

I pray and know that she will come out of this with flying colors as with everything else that stands before her.

I worked with Gina in the 007th Dist when we were both P.O.s. I had lost contact with her until we ran into each other when she started the Master's Program at Adler. The first thing she told me was that she was glad to see me and I looked good because I had previously been sick. She related she had been praying for my recovery after she heard I had been sick. We both commented that the power of prayer goes a long way. That’s the type of person that Gina is.
I will continue to pray for Gina and her family. May God Bless each and everyone of you during these trying times.

It was just a little over 2 months ago that eight of us girlfriends were sitting on the beach, having a cocktail or two, enjoying the weather in Port Charlotte.
As we sat on the beach we went around in a circle and said out loud what we had been thankful for in our life. We all had something profound to say, with most of us saying that we are thankful for family and friends… It is hard to believe that this has happened to Gina when she seemed fine not so long ago.
My prayers have been with Gina and her family and they will continue until she is fully recovered.

May God bless all of you and if there is anything I can do, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Faithfully,
Richard Daly

I am a friend and coworker of Gina’s. Please be assured that Gina is in my prayers. Our kids are the same age and Gina and I would constantly share stories about our families, many of which were easily relatable. I will keep updated thru the website, but please be assured that if you guys need anything, please feel free to call.
My family and I wish you a Happy and Healthy 2009.
